Clakrston Campus Gym

The Clarkston Campus Gym will be used for various events each year for our Regional Science Olympiad event.

The floor will be covered and the basketball nets will be raised to the ceiling. The air conditioning will be turned off.

The height of the gym ceiling from the floor is 28" 0", and the height from the floor to the hanging supports is 24" 8".

Below are images for how the gym is typically set up (click on each image to view a larger size image). The uncovered section of the floor is used for vehicle events such as Gravity Vehicle or Mousetrap Vehicle. The covered section of the floor is divided into areas for other events, such as Wright Stuff, Helicopters, Ping-Pong Parachute, Mission Possible, Robot Arm, etc.

The floor in the uncovered area is a standard gym flooring made from laminated wood with a polyurethane sealer to protect its surface. This floor is routeinly waxed. The covered area has a heavy duty rubberized protective covering over it.

The covered area of the gym floor will be divided each year according to how many events are hosted in the gym and the required area for each event. The set up shown below will therefore vary each year. The bleachers on the right as you enter the gym will be available for spectators each year. The bleachers on the left will be collapsed each year.

For our 2023 event we increased the number of teams we will be hosting. Due to this, we are going to be running the flight (Flight) and track (Scrambler) events each with two teams competing simultaneously in separate competition zones. This will allow twice as many teams to compete in each time slot, allowing us to fit these events into the day with 36 teams competing.

Below is a closer view of the track area for the vehicle event.

Pictures of the gym setup prior to our 2023 event are below.

The basic blueprints for the gym are shown below.

The sertup pictured below is not valid for 2023. This is the set up from previous years. The basic layout for the gym setup is shown below. The section in front of the 2 tables on the side near the tennis courts is for the vehicle event. Behind the 2 tables is the impound for vehicles. The 3 tables at the back and the large area in front of it is for the flying event. The 3 tables at the front near the gym doors and the space between the wall and the tables is for other device events such as robot arm, mission possible, etc. Disclaimer: The setup might vary on the day. This is our typical setup.
