Announcements for the 2023 PC Science Olympiad.

Check this page regularly for updates, as all updates and information are posted here for team coach's. Announcements will NOT be emailed. It is the responsibility of the coach to check for updates and information.

03/02/23: A room conflict was posted for Codebusters and Experimental Design. This has been updated on the events information and schedule and is:

02/28/23: The team home bases for schools will be in CN Building. We will have tables setup and name tags on the tables. As we have increased the capacity of our tournament some home bases will be upstairs. There are stairs inside and an elevator to get to the second level. The team coaches room for signing in, etc. is upstairs in CN building. The coaches room will be directly opposite the end of the stairs in the small glass room overlooking the cafeteria area.

02/27/23: If you want / need to drop off your team close to the base camp location (CN building), then please use Lot 2 as the drop off point. The map for bus parking now identifies this location as well.

02/27/23: We have set aside CC-1220 for school bus drivers to hang out / wait in if they will be waiting on campus throughout the event. It has tables, seats, and power sockets (under square plates on the floor). A bathroom is also just round the corner!

02/22/23: It is recommended that buses park in lots 5 or 3. Lot 6 is a backup if lots 5 and 3 are full. These are identified on this image.

02/21/23: Event schedule with rooms has been posted on the Event information and Schedule page. The buildings on the map and some on campus have two letters. The first letter if it has two letters is C for Clarkston campus and the second letter is the building letter.

02/19/23: The campus maps link takes you to a page which displays the map that can be zoomed in and out. Below that map are options for printing the map. If you are having problems with the print map, here are the color map and the black & white map.

02/19/23: We are still working on room locations for events. Our Chemistry labs are being renovated, which is causing some delay in assigning room locations.

02/17/23: Team forms submitted by 02/17/23 at 9pm have been processed. One of the following emails have been sent to Team Coaches:

02/13/23: The Campus cafe will be open on the day of the event. Please complete this survey by 02/24/23 so we can provide an estiamte to the cafe for how much food to be prepared to prepare. The menu and pricing can be found here.

02/13/23: The due date for uploading team forms is fast approaching. Team coaches who have submitted files so far have been contacted to confirm the forms are complete or that errors were found (specific issues would be noted in the email). Please check your email for confirmation / report of issues.

01/20/23: Please start uploading the team forms ASAP. It takes a long time for us to process these forms. We need the School roster GSU file with all possible participants listed (you can add more later if you need and jsut upload a new version) and forms organized as shown in the Team forms page. If any forms are incomplete / invalid, I will email coaches with specific names of which forms are wrong and what the problem is. I will try to this on a weekly basis as forms come in. Without the School Roster GSU file I cannot check off students that the forms are present and complete.

01/19/23: A file for directions on how Team Coaches signup for events on the SciLympiad site when the signup opens isat the bottom of the Signup page.

01/19/23: A few team coach's asked about team forms and what happens if the form is not fully completed (information that is listed is not entered on the form by the parent/guardian). When the forms have been manually processed, team coaches will be contacted about any forms with incomplete information. If the information is not fixed, meaning the form(s) is not fully completed, then that student will not be allowed on campus on the day of the event and will not be able to compete in the event. The forms must be complete. The Minors on Campus policy and GSU Attorneys / Risk Management that oversee this policy prohibit any minor being on campus for an event if the forms are incomplete. There is nothing we can do about that, which is why we have to manually check every single form.

01/19/23: Half of the team coaches responded to our survey about food possibilities. we are investigating with GSU about what our options are. The $5-$10 range was the most popular option. We will post an update on this before the end of the month with if we can get this done or not.

01/19/23: Our Chemistry labs are being renovated this year and will not be able to be used on the day of the event. We are moving events into other rooms / buildings. We have not come across any event we cannot move and have not come across any event where the rules cannot work in a non-lab room. We cannot book rooms until this coming week due to GSU policies, but when we have the rooms assigned we will update the schedule with room locations.

01/10/23: We are investigating the feasibility of getting either food truck(s) or campus cafeteria to be available on the day of our even. For either option, we would need some level of commitment as neither option would work if they are not likely to make sufficient money. For our planning, please complete this survey by Sunday 11/15/23. Based on this information, we can move forwards with investigating possibilities.

01/10/23: When uploading the forms for your students to the SciLympiad website, please make sure you have also uploaded the school roter excel file. I need to know who is on your teams before I can verify their forms were correctly submitted.

01/10/23: We are still working on room allocations for our event. This year our Chemistry labs are being remodeled and will not be available. We will be able to move events to other rooms and adhere to rules for each event. it is unlikely that any events will be held in the C building this year due to the renovation.

01/06/23: Quiz bowl information has been posted on the quiz bowl page.

01/04/23: Images of the gym have been added to the gym page. For our 2023 event we increased the number of teams we will be hosting. Due to this, we are going to be running the flight (Flight) and track (Scrambler) events each with two teams competing simultaneously in separate competition zones. This will allow twice as many teams to compete in each time slot, allowing us to fit these events into the day with 36 teams competing.

01/04/23: The way to submit team forms has slightly changed from last year. Please review the Team forms page ASAP. We have increased the number of teams we accept from 24 to 36. Each individual form for each student must be manually checked and processed, which takes a lot of time. Studetns with incomplete forms will not be allowed on campus! So please submit early / weekly as described in the new process.

01/04/23: Welcome email has been sent to team coaches. This will be the only email with information, announcements, etc. sent. Further announcements and any changes to any information will be made through the PC Science Olympiad event website. Checking for announcements, changes, and/or updates is your responsibility. No further emails will be sent for announcements, changes, etc., so please check this website regularly. If you have any questions / concerns, please email Mark Hollier (mhollier@gsu.edu).

12/23/22: The singup site will be available on February 01, 2023 (02/01/23) at 7:00pm. It will close on February 28, 2023 (02/28/23) at 11:59pm. The signup page has more information that you need to read before the signup period and take into account while signing up. The signup site is the website provided through the State of Georgia Science Olympiad organization for online signup. The login for this site is here. The team swap option is only available during this same time period.

12/23/22: Final team rosters are due by 03/01/22 at 11:59pm and will be uplaoded on the SciLympiad website. Team forms must have been submited previously for all students on each team on the SciLympiad website. Team forms must be submitted by 02/16/23 (changed from 02/10/22 to 02/17/22 to give you more time to collect, organize, and submit these forms). It is recommended that you submit forms for any possible student who could be on one of your teams. Submitting the forms for a student does not mean you have to list them on a team. But you cannot add someone later to a team for whom we do not have completed forms for.

12/23/22: The room assignments will be made in February. Georgia State University will not allow us to book rooms until a couple of weeks after classes have started for the semester. When they are confirmed, the locations will be added to the schedule.

12/23/22: The deadline for FAQs and Clarifications on rules from team coaches is 02/13/23.

12/23/22: Welcome email will be sent to team coaches when we receive a lsit of Schools that will be attending our Regional event. This will be the only email with information, announcements, etc. sent. Further announcements and any changes to any information will be made through the PC Science Olympiad event website. Checking for announcements, changes, and/or updates is your responsibility. No further emails will be sent for announcements, changes, etc., so please check this website regularly.

12/23/22: Photographs of the gym are available here. We will be updating the gym page in early January as our event will be slightly different due to increasing the number of teams we are hosting (an announcement will be psoted when this is done). Information relating to electronic devices is here. Information relating to eye protection is here. Information relating to computers at Perimeter College is here. Information on Written Policies used at Perimeter College for our event are here. Information for the Minors on Campus policy is here.

12/23/22: Definitions of electronic devices and calculators is available on the Electronic Devices page. The definitions of calculators on this page will be used for all events according to how it is worded in the event descriptions provided by the National Science Olympiad Organization.

12/23/22: Check the page for Georgia specific rules and PC specific rules for events. The Perimeter College specific rules will be finalized by early February.

12/23/22: We are already working hard to prepare for this event, as I am sure you are also. If you know now that you will have any students with physical disabilities, please advise us now before we begin scheduling rooms for the events. Please note that we may not offer all (or any) of the trial events, depending upon the availability of personnel and rooms, since these are not required events. This will be decided as we develop the final schedule and you will be advised of our decision. The rules for the trial events may be found on the national web site.

12/23/22: Team coaches will need to start to collecting completed forms for each student on their team(s). The forms can be found on the team forms page. These forms will most likely be uplaoded thorugh the SciLympiad website. As this site is still being setup, you won't be able to uplaod them jsut yet. An annoucnement will be posted on this announcement page when you can start uploading the forms. The deadline for submitting these forms is 02/16/23.

12/23/22: We are sorting through the SciLympiad site setup at the moment. This year we will be using the website provided through the State of Georgia Science Olympiad organization for online signup. A future announcement will be made when the signup release dates are known..

12/23/22: Tentative schedule is currentlynot available. It is being finalized and will be available soon. Another announcement will be made when it is available on the event information and schedule page.

12/23/22: Right now, we are planning on scheduling events (including registration) in buildings "N", "A", "C", "D", G (Gym), and the JCLRC (Jim Cherry Learning Resource Center). Building "N" is the Student Center and that is where students will probably want to gather when they are not involved in events. The awards ceremony will most likely be in the Auditorium of the JCLRC (the library). It is a fairly small campus with covered walkways, so we hope that you will be able to navigate the campus easily.
